Cusco
Next up on our itinerary was Cusco, the tourist capital of Peru.
Located at 11,000 feet, it's the launching point for all major destinations
in the Andes mountains.
Like many South American cities Cusco is built around a main square where
residents and tourists often congregate. There are other squares throughout
the city, but this is the biggest and most important one.
Cusco was actually built on the former capital of the Incan civilization.
When the Spanish took over in the mid-15th Century, they turned the place
into a European-style city, and it was only more recently that it became
a center of tourism.
