Reed Island View
Lake Titicaca

A look down on the island from an observation tower. The city of Puno is visible in the distance, so you can figure out these island are not all that far from shore.

The islands themselves are not very big, with some 20-30 people living on each one. There are a number of such islands, and some of them cater to tourists while others prefer to be left alone.

The story goes that when the Spanish took over Peru in the 15th century, some natives fled the Conquistadors by creating these floating islands out of reeds. And they've stayed out here ever since.
