Cathedral Arch
Copabana

The female figure in the center of this carving is the Virgin Mary. Peruvian and Bolivian interpretations of the virgin often show her wearing a dress that fans out in the shape of a mountain. This is because the mountain is seen by the native people as their protector, and they transposed that image onto Christian icons when the Spanish converted them to Catholocism.
